It was a deserved win for Liverpool against Manchester United on Sunday.
The Reds beat their opponents 2-0 at Anfield with 55% possession and 16 shots to nine. It could have even been three had Roberto Firmino’s goal not been disallowed for a foul by Virgil van Dijk in the build-up. The victory puts them 16 points clear at the top of the Premier League table.

It was a dominant performance once again from the Anfield outfit, but United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer didn’t quiet see it that way. In his analysis of the match, he said that Liverpool are the “most direct team in the Premier League” – not exactly the best praise for a side who have been so superior to everyone else this term – and that they play a lot of long balls.
As you can imagine, the Liverpool supporters reacted in huge numbers, and many have criticised him for his words.
It certainly does seem to be a little bitter. Given they have won 21 out of 22 matches so far this term, Liverpool cannot really be described as a long-ball team in any way.
